Alan M. Dattner, MD has been a pioneer for over 30 years in integrating nutrition, dermatology, Applied Kinesiology, and Holistic Medicine into the practice of dermatology. He is a founding member of the American Academy of Dermatology’s groundbreaking Task Force for Nutrition and Evaluation of Alternative Medicine, and is a board-certified dermatologist.
Dr. Dattner has written a number of scientific articles on nutrition and herbal medicine in dermatology. Host Ellen Kamhi, PhD RN, interviews Kathy Jensen, RD about Living Healthy.
Kathy is a Registered Dietitian for Colorado Mental Health Institute. Kathy has been instrumental in initiating the Living Healthy model at the institute by transforming the menus to be much healthier: low fat, low cholesterol, low sodium (3g.), lower in calories, high fiber, higher in potassium and consistent in carbohydrate at each meal. She has eliminated as many chemicals in the foods as possible, providing great meals without preservatives, colorings, etc.
By cooking from scratch the institute is able to feed patients all the food they need to meet and exceed daily requirements on a very tight budget. Living Healthy also provides an intensive education program for staff, in nutrition and making healthy choices. It also involved working with the psychologists for rewards systems that support healthy choices.
Kathy also founded The Diabetes Wellness Network International, Inc. a non-profit corporation which delivers low cost education programs for families, and works to educate Dieticians on how to bring whole , nutritious vegetable based food to institutions, while meeting restricted budgets.

Richard has been an avid student of our native flora for over twenty five years. He has been practising as an herbalist since 1997, blending use of native medicinal plants with Chinese and Western herbal traditions. He is a graduate of David Winston’s School of Herbal Therapeutics as well as having studied at Rosemary Gladstar’s Sage Mountain Retreat Center, and in New York City with herbalist William LeSassier.
He is a professional member of the American Herbalists Guild and sits on AHG Council (board of directors). He currently serves as Secretary and chairs the AHG Policy Committee and the Committee for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Richard is also active in issues related to fair trade, sustainability, and social justice.

Ellen Kamhi PhD, RN, interviews Dr. John Hall, PhD – Senior Scientific Advisor at The Beljanski Foundation.
Dr. Hall completed graduate work in biochemistry at Princeton University and New York University. As a post-doctoral fellow and then as a professor at Rockefeller University, his research focused on the fundamental mechanisms relating cell motility to cell division and cancer.
He has served as an executive and as a consultant in the biotechnology industry, and he is currently Director of Research at Natural Source International, Ltd., as well as Senior Scientific Advisor for The Beljanski Foundation. Dr John Hall was awarded his PhD in biochemistry in the same department in which Mirko Beljanski was a visiting research fellow in Severo Ochoa’s laboratory at NYU in 1950.
On today’s show, Dr. Hall will discuss the history of the research and practice of Dr. Mirko Beljanski, whose work assisted many people successfully deal with a cancer diagnosis, as documented in the book, The Regulation of DNA Replication and Transcription, by Mirko Beljanski. Dr. Hall will also present Mirko Beljanski’s research on natural compounds with anti-cancer properties. He will also present the published research recently conducted on those compounds by prestigious American institutions and funded by The Beljanski Foundation.

He is one of North America’s most respected herbalists and botanical researchers, with more than 25 years of clinical and practical experience with herbal medicines.
After studying herbal medicine at the School of Natural Healing under Dr. John Christopher, Ric practiced as a clinical herbalist in New England. He regularly teaches herbal classes, interfaces with the media, and lectures nationally on herbal topics.
Ric Scalzo is the co-author of Herbal Solutions for Healthy Living, a groundbreaking herbal repertory and therapeutic dispensatory guide to the safe and effective use of medicinal herbs that has sold more than a quarter of a million copies. In addition, Ric is a lifelong student of Vedic philosophy and spiritual practices. Ric Scalzo holds an honorary Doctorate in Naturopathy from the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, Arizona, and received a Master Herbalist degree in 1982 from the School of Natural Healing.
Ric also founded Gaia Herbal Research Institute, which, along with its publishing arm Herbal Research Publications, has contributed extensively to the quality and proliferation of herbal literacy in the United States.
