Who is Dr. Jill Baron?

dr-baron-aboutDr. Jill Baron is a highly skilled and compassionate physician who is board certified by both the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine, certified in Functional Medicine, and is a Certified Menopause Practitioner (NCMP) with the North American Menopause Society.

Dr. Baron’s interest in mind-body medicine began when she learned the Transcendental Meditation technique at the age of 16. She completed a degree biology at Princeton University, attended the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and choose a residency in Family Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook.

She is a consultant on Dr. Oz’s Sharecare.com website, and has appeared on television and radio speaking about health.

Dr. Baron combines conventional primary care medicine with holistic and mind-body therapies including nutrition and weight management; lifestyle counseling; stress management; and visualization and imagery. Dr. Baron feels that stress accounts for many of the illnesses that afflict her patients. Through her functional medicine training, Dr. Baron has learned that a high stress lifestyle, alone or with overuse of antibiotics and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, may contribute to what is called a “leaky gut,” which can lead to many health issues such as irritable bowel syndrome, fatigue, depression, and autoimmune conditions.

As a pianist and violinist, Dr. Baron, believes in the power of music to heal. She has always believed that people need kindness and caring, and she has seen how patients can feel better without pharmaceuticals, when they have been listened to and cared for. Dr. Baron has studied with many healers and teachers, and she continues to learn and take courses to help her be the best she can for her patients. She practices the Transcendental Meditation technique and QiGong, and tries to incorporate mindfulness in her daily life.

Iodine: Why We Need It with Maggies Martakis-nn2

Ellen Kamhi PhD, RN, interviews Maggie Martakis of Maggies Holistics NY.

Who is Maggies Martakis?

maggie-martakisThe founder of Maggie’s Holistics, NYC, Maggie is a holistic healer, certified in Reiki and Kundalini yoga with a degree in the Sciences and Art History. She is also currently studying Ayurvedic Medicine.

Dissatisfied with conventional treatments while trying to heal her son’s health issues, as well as her own, Maggie Martakis sought a holistic approach. She discovered that we are exposed daily to radiation, fluorine, chlorine and bromine chemicals, as they can be found in many of our foods, soft drinks, toothpastes, pools, water, air and household chemicals. These chemicals and heavy metals accumulate and get stored in our body interfering with thyroid function, the endocrine glandular system and can cause calcification of our pineal gland (aka third eye) lowering our IQ.

Healthy levels of iodine help prevent toxic build up of these chemicals and with proper diet assists our cells to take in the proper nutrients and minerals. Additional health benefits include increased energy and weight loss. Using this knowledge enabled her to successfully tackle her family’s health issues holistically.
