This is the intro presentation for a series of in depth lectures on specific drug categories. The full course includes 8 presentations that describe drugs that can cause depletions through a variety of biochemical mechanisms. Drug categories include Anti-biotics, Anti-diabetics, Anti-inflammatories, Cardiovascular , Chemotherapy and others. Depletion of nutrients can lead to alterations in physiology leading to side effects, symptoms or other conditions and disease.
We also review possible herbal support for health conditions, along with significant herb/drug interactions, and provide a review of databases and information relating to this topic.
Objectives:
- To recognize potential drug-induced nutrient depletion (DIND) and be able to counsel and make appropriate nutrient recommendations
- To identify the metabolic consequences of DIND’s
- To identify potential herb/drug interactions
- To provide alternative therapeutic options for individuals as a substitution for or addition to conventional therapies
